English to Myanmar Translation
Machine Translation (MT) is the automatic translation from one natural language to another. Natural Language Processing enables computers to be used as aids in analyzing and processing natural language, and to understand by analogy with computers, more about how people process natural language.
English-Myanmar Translation System has been developed by NLP Team, University of Computer Studies, Yangon, Myanmar, under the guidance of Ministry of Science and Technology and University of Computer Studies, Yangon, Myanmar.
Implementing English-Myanmar Translation System aims to get the following objectives:
- To implement a standard translation system between Myanmar and English languages
- To solve language difficulties for the people who cannot read English well
- To build a system that can provide students in learning English language easily
Although the system is based on syntactic and semantic analysis, translation of compound sentences and paragraphs are still ongoing state.
- Windows Server 2003 is used.
- Name Transliteration is done using Name Mapping.
- Syntactic reordering is quite good.
- Word Sense Translation is done using statistical method.
- Visitor's sentences are recorded in log file for the purpose of translation improvement.
- The system is run on DELL Optiplex 380, Intel(R), Core(TM)2 Duo CPU, E7500 @ 2.93 GHz, 2 GB RAM
- Dictionary size : 28302 entries.
- Launched on October 20, 2010.
- Ubuntu Lucid is used.
- Name Transliteration is done using statistical method.
- As POS tagger is upgraded, syntactic reordering is also needed to solve accordingly.
- Word Sense Translation is done using statistical method.
- Visitor's sentences are recorded in log file for the purpose of translation improvement.

- Dictionary size : 31949 entries.
